Design on the canvas
Ask your Talent for screens, posters or emails, then pan, edit text in place, comment, play linked screens, download, and share a design from TalentOS Design.
TalentOS Design is a canvas for anything people look at: app screens, landing pages, posters, banners, social images and email templates. Your Talent makes each screen as its own page and lays it out as an artboard at its real size. You can edit text in place, ask for changes on a single element, try the screens out, and download or share the result.
Start a design
- Choose + in the composer, or the make row on Home, and pick TalentOS Design. The composer fills in "Design a ". Finish the sentence and send it.
- Or ask in your own words, for example "Design a sign-up screen for phone and desktop." Your Talent decides when a page belongs on the canvas.
- In Library, open the Designs tab and choose New design to start a fresh chat on a blank canvas.
When the run finishes, the chat shows one TalentOS Design card with the number of artboards. Open it to see the canvas beside your chat. Each chat has one canvas, and later designs in the same chat join it. To move a web page onto the canvas, choose Open in Design from its ··· menu, or ask your Talent to put it on the canvas.
Artboards use common sizes: 1440 wide for desktop, 390 for a phone, 1200 by 1600 for a poster, 1200 by 628 for a banner, 1080 by 1920 for a story, and 1080 square. Ask for another size if you need one, and your Talent can set an exact width and height.
Move around the canvas
- Pan: drag the canvas, hold Space, or choose Hand (H). A scroll wheel pans too.
- Zoom: Cmd or Ctrl with the scroll wheel, or pinch on a trackpad. The zoom menu has Zoom to fit (⌘0), 25%, 50%, 100% and 200%.
- Focus: select an artboard and press F. Use Fit all artboards from the page menu to see everything again.
- Rearrange: drag an artboard to move it, or nudge a selected one with the arrow keys.
Edit text and style in place
- Click an element on an artboard to select it. A box and a format bar appear.
- Double-click, press Enter, or choose Text (T) to type into text. Press Escape to stop typing.
- Use the format bar:
- Text: font and size, text colour, bold, italic, underline, link and alignment. The page's own fonts and colours are listed first.
- A container: fill, layout, corner radius and padding.
- An image: corner radius.
- More (···): edit the text, select the surrounding container, or delete the element.
- Press Cmd or Ctrl and Z to undo typing, a format change or a delete.
Edits save on their own a moment after you stop. The label shows Edited, Saving… and Saved. Each save is a new version of that page, so nothing you replace is lost.
Ask your Talent to change one element
In a private chat, select an element and choose Comment in the format bar. Type what you want, such as "Make this button say Start free trial", and send. Your Talent changes that element on the page you were looking at.
Selecting an artboard or an element also points your next message at it. The composer shows a chip such as Home › "Get started". Send a message and your Talent works on that selection. Choose the chip's ✕ to clear it.
Notes, shapes and pen
Use the tool palette to mark up the canvas for yourself and your Talent:
- Sticky note (S) drops a note.
- Pen (P) draws freehand.
- Shapes has Rectangle (R), Oval (O), Line (L) and Arrow (A).
Click to drop a note or shape, or drag to size it. Select one and press Backspace to delete it. Notes sit on the canvas, not on the page, so they never change the design itself.
Compare options
- Select an artboard and choose Variations to ask for new takes on it.
- Choose Make more options from the page menu for more alternatives.
- When the canvas holds more than one artboard, choose Use as final on the one to take forward.
- Choose Open to open a page on its own. Select an artboard and remove it to take it off the canvas. The page itself stays in your Library.
Play linked screens
Choose Play at the top right and pick an artboard. It opens as a working preview:
- Fit shows the whole page. Fill fits its width and scrolls.
- Links and buttons that point to another screen in the design take you there, like a clickable prototype. The screen's working links flash briefly when it opens.
- Screens lists every artboard. Back to returns to the screen you came from.
- Close Play, or Escape, leaves Play. Present all, full screen presents every artboard.
Pages on the canvas run no scripts, so a link to another website does nothing in Play.
Download
Open an artboard's Download, in its header or in Play, and choose:
- the HTML file
- a PDF
- a zip of that version's files
- a PNG image at the artboard's width and full height, when the option is listed
Work on a room's canvas
Each room and each direct message has one shared canvas. Open the room's Design tab to see it. Pages a Talent or a connected agent makes for the room's design join it.
Every member can move artboards, add notes and edit pages in place. Each edit is saved as a new version under the member who made it. The room's Files list shows these pages under Designs.
Share a design, view only
- Open the design and choose Share.
- Pick who can open it: specific people, your team, or the whole company. Only you (or Only this room, or Only you two in a direct message) takes it back.
- For your team or the company, confirm the choice.
Sharing is view only, and pages added later are included. Your notes on the canvas show too.
People you share with find the design in Library, under Designs shared with you. They can play it, fit it, and download a page's HTML. They cannot edit, move, add notes or share it.
In a room or direct message, any member can share the room's design or take it back. The room shows a line when someone widens or narrows who can view it. Archiving the room closes the share. There are no public links.
Find your designs
Your designs and the designs in your rooms and direct messages appear in Library among your files, and on their own under the Designs tab. Choose a design's name on its canvas to rename it, or use Rename in its Library card's menu.
For Talents and agents reading this page: make each screen or variant as its own page, and revise that same page when asked for a change. Link screens to each other so Play can follow them. On a room's canvas, every member can see and edit what you place there. Sharing outside the room is a person's choice, not yours.
A worked example
A product lead chooses TalentOS Design and sends "Design a three screen onboarding flow for our phone app." Three phone artboards appear. She fixes a typo in place, selects the main button and comments "Use our orange here." Her Talent updates that button. She chooses Play, taps through the three screens, then downloads the first screen as a PNG for a review deck and shares the design with her team, view only.
What to check
- You got a single web page, not a canvas. Ask your Talent to put it on the canvas, or choose Open in Design from the page's menu.
- "This preview couldn't be loaded." Choose Retry on the artboard.
- "This page is no longer available." The page was removed. Take the artboard off the canvas.
- The label shows Not saved. Your last edit was refused, and the artboard shows the last saved version again. Make the edit again.
- PNG image is missing from Download. It is not available right now. Download the PDF or HTML instead.
- You cannot edit or add notes. The design was shared with you to view only. Ask its owner, or a member of its room, for changes.
- Comment is missing. Comments to your Talent are for your private chat's canvas. In a room, select the element, then mention your Talent in the room's composer with your request.
Take meeting notes
Record a meeting inside a document, get a summary, action items and a transcript by speaker, and keep typing your own notes around it.
