Edit a document in place
Type straight into a plain document, use the toolbar and the / menu, add pictures, start a blank Scratchpad, and keep working alongside your Talent's revisions.
A plain document is yours to type in. Open it and click into the text. There is no Edit mode to enter and no Save button to find.
Type, format, insert
- The toolbar sits above the page the whole time. Use its style menu to switch a line between paragraph, Heading 1, 2 or 3, quote and the three list kinds, and its insert buttons to add any block.
- The
/menu opens when you type/on an empty line. It lists Heading 1, 2 and 3, Table, Bulleted list, Checklist, Code block, Divider and Numbered list. - Select text to get bold, italic and the other inline styles, indent and links.
Everything you can add here survives every export. What you see is what lands in the PDF or Word file.
Add a picture
Choose Image in the toolbar. The picker shows pictures already in your Library, or choose Upload to add one from your computer. A single picture can be up to 50 MB.
Pictures travel with the document: they appear in its PDF and Word exports too. A document holds up to 20 pictures.
Start from a blank page
Open the + menu in the composer and choose Scratchpad. A blank page opens beside your chat straight away, with nothing sent to your Talent. Write your own notes first and bring your Talent in when you are ready.
When the notes are ready to become a finished piece, choose Dress it up. Your Talent turns the page into a designed document in a look. The scratchpad stays in History, and restoring that earlier version is the way back.
How saving works
- Your typing saves as you go.
- A new version is written after about two minutes without typing, when you close the document, before you share it, and before an export.
- Old versions are always there. See Find an artifact and go back a version.
Working alongside your Talent
You and your Talent can both change the same document. Ask in chat, "tighten the intro and add a pricing table", and your Talent writes a new version.
- If you were not typing, the document updates to your Talent's version. In a chat you can Compare it with the version before, Undo it, or Keep it.
- If you were typing when it changed, nothing is replaced silently. Your typing stays on screen and TalentOS asks: Keep mine, or Discard mine and load latest.
- If you have the same document open in two tabs, the second tab asks the same question, with the option to use the other tab's edits instead.
Designed documents, the ones your Talent laid out in a look, open for reading rather than typing. Ask your Talent for changes and it writes a new version. Older versions also open read only.
What to check
- You cannot type into the document. It is a designed document, an older version, or someone else's. Ask your Talent to change a designed one, or restore the version you want first.
- The Image button is missing. Pictures need the document export service to be available. Try again later.
- A picture will not upload. Check it is under 50 MB and try again.
Turn a chat answer into a real file
Ask your Talent to save its work as an artifact, then open the finished document, deck, spreadsheet or PDF from chat or the Artifacts page.
Take meeting notes
Record a meeting inside a document, get a summary, action items and a transcript by speaker, and keep typing your own notes around it.
