Read-only mode

What happens when a trial ends, a payment fails, or a subscription is canceled.

When your Team plan isn't active, the workspace goes read-only. This can happen when:

  • the trial ends without a valid payment method
  • a payment fails
  • the subscription is canceled

What read-only means

Your data stays visible and safe — nothing is deleted and everyone can still browse the workspace. What pauses is new work:

  • grading
  • generation
  • invites
  • edits

These resume automatically as soon as billing is brought back up to date.

What admins see

Admins see a banner across the workspace that links to Settings → Billing. From there, use Manage billing to update the payment method (or Resubscribe if the plan has ended) in the secure billing portal. The workspace unlocks automatically once billing is active again.

What members see

Members see a banner letting them know the workspace is read-only and that an admin needs to update billing. Members don't have billing controls, so there's no action for them to take — but they can still view everything in the workspace.
